RECREATIONAL DIVE MASTER This program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for an individual to lead certified divers in the open water environment. At the completion of the program, the newly certified Divemaster can assist an active instructor (Any agency instructor with their approval) during approved diving courses provided the activities are similar to the graduate’s prior training. They can also supervise and conduct dives for certified divers provided the activities are similar to the graduate’s prior training. We utilize an On-Line Divemaster program for academics. Allowing the DM candidate to conduct a lot of materials from home. This course allows a student to complete the course work and paperwork online at their own pace. When the paperwork is completed the candidate sets up a training schedule with Hoodsport’N Dive to complete the hands-on requirements. The Hands-on portion includes working with actual students or actors. They will develop skills to control panic students, ensure safe entries and exits, and maintain a group within the instructors’ area of control. They become the eyes of the instructor when the instructor’s actual eyes may be focused on another area. Once a person completes the course they are welcome to sponsor guided dives at local Hood Canal dive locations. There are many times that Hoodsport’N Dive gets requests for qualified divemasters to take certified divers around the Hood Canal, when they may not be familiar with the area.
