RECREATIONAL INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE (IDC)

The SDI instructor course is designed to teach current Divemasters or Assistant Instructors the knowledge to safely function as an independent instructor. This 4 day (40 hour) program prepares the student for the Open Water Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC). It covers theory, SDI standards and teaching techniques for both the classroom and water environments. The IEC can be scheduled immediately following this course. The IEC is an additional fee which is based upon the IEC Instructor and the number of Students.

Duration: Approximately 40 hours – 4 days. The IEC adds an additional day.

Prerequisites for this course are:

  • 18 years old
  • Diver for 6 months.
  • 100 logged dives.
  • Current diving medical examination.
  • Currently an Assistant Instructor or Divemaster.
  • Current Oxygen, First aid and CPR.
  • Swim 400 meters within 10 minutes.
  • Swim 800 meters W/mask, fins and snorkel in under 17 minutes.

The price includes: all books and course material, and registration with SDI.

Cost: $2500 – Instructor Evaluation fee is paid separately to the evaluator
